Physiology
Research into the (patho)mechanisms of the cardiovascular system.
The focus of curiosity lies in the molecular mechanisms that regulate (loss of) function in the heart, the microcirculation and the skeletal muscles. The research focuses on diastolic heart failure, inherited cardiac diseases, restoration of blood flow after an occlusion, and the prevention of vascular dysfunction in various clinical conditions.
Experimental Cardiology
Research into inherited heart diseases to understand their onset and progression. By using advanced genetic studies and molecular and functional laboratory research, including measurements of the electrical activity of heart muscle cells, we aim to predict which patients need more intensive or less intensive therapy. This approach may also lead to the development of new therapies, especially for diseases that currently lack effective treatment.
